# Build-time work stays out of requests

The existing [asset writer](https://github.com/joelhooks/rat-stack/blob/main/apps/mischief/scripts/emit-assets.ts) emits content-addressed output.
The Worker reads that output through [static assets](https://github.com/joelhooks/rat-stack/blob/main/apps/mischief/src/static-assets.ts).

The [code-snippets design brief](/lore/code-snippets) keeps Git reads and highlighting in build-time work.
Request-time work receives static output.
It does not resolve Git objects or start Shiki.

The proposed gate checks that neither the snippet package nor Shiki enters the startup bundle.
The existing [startup budget](https://github.com/joelhooks/rat-stack/blob/main/apps/mischief/scripts/startup-budget.ts) limits:

- Entry JavaScript to 3,300,000 bytes.
- Complete JavaScript upload to 5,000,000 bytes.

A passing size check alone does not prove the import boundary.
Check the bundle graph too.

[Preflight](/lore/accumulate-independent-errors) finishes before asset emission.
[Pinned sources](/lore/pinned-sources-can-report-drift) require no generation-time network fetch.
